Thirteen-thousand Steps On The Fitbit

On Monday, I clocked more than 13,000 steps on the Fitbit. A new Personal Record. The goal is 10,000 steps a day. The Fitbit is a good motivating tool for people like me, who are short on self-motivation.

Lots of exercise was a frequent recommendation by the folks responding to my post about depression. So success at walking,  for at least one day, is my first, humble effort to write “good news.”

Stand by for more good news.

    Wow, good for you! You know, if you start walking 3 hours a day, you could have a blog dedicated just to that. You’re bound to see and experience some interesting things. I, for one, would love to hear about your shin splints and how you’re dealing with them, haha! Don’t forget to drink 10 glasses of water a day!

    • Walking and blogging about what you see is an intriguing idea Dorothy. I could make it more interesting by taking photos along the way. People often seem to like pictures more than endless dull words. Going to make a list of all the good suggestions I’m receiving.

  2. Going for the steps-a-day goal is a good start. Now for the max therapeutic effect, mix in some intensity. Just for a 60 second interval, clock as fast as you can without breaking into a run — pick a point where you’ve got a good stretch of sidewalk or beach ahead of you. Drop back for one minute. Repeat that five times and then go on about your day. Notice how you feel after pushing yourself until you’re puffing, Work up to two minutes at the fast pace. After a while you may need new sneakers. I never run myself, I cannot support the gait, but speedwalking takes care of the issue, and it’s exhilarating.

    • Such a good exercise suggestion! You could have another successful business as a personal trainer. I’m sorry that you can no longer run, but happy you’ve been able to adapt.

      • Oh, to be clear, I NEVER could run. My ass is too wide. I did it once and my chiropractor had a field day. On the other hand, even with a buggered hip, I squatted 135 for a triple this afternoon.

  5. Outstanding John! what is it they say? healthy body = healthy mind 🙂 Your post is an inspiration for me as i also hope to begin a walking regimen. I live just across from the beach and my friends tell me there is nothing like a early morning walk for prayer and meditation….even if it’s 20 minutes. I hope to work up to as many steps as you have soon. i don’t have a fitbit but i’m going to try an app on my phone, We all have to start somewhere and the trick is to keep on “truckin” … now that word takes me back… 🙂
